The Campus
Located on the eastern edge of Southern California's San Gabriel Valley, the 1,400-acre campus features lush rolling hills; flowers, plants, and trees from all seven continents; a rose garden built by W.K. Kellogg; and a beautifully landscaped Japanese garden.
The University's aesthetic qualities are one of its best kept secrets. Los Angeles architect Myron Hunt (Pasadena Rose Bowl, Pasadena Huntington Library) designed Kellogg's main house, manor house, trainer's house and the Arabian horse stables. Pasadena landscape architect Charles Gibbs Adams (Randolph Hearst Castle Gardens, Virginia Robinson Gardens) landscaped the grounds, which were later completed by Florence Yoch and Lucile Council, widely recognized as two of the finest garden designers and landscape architects in California. Recently, Antoine Predock (Venice Beach House, San Diego Padres Petco Park) designed the administration building and Takeo Uesugi designed the George and Sakaye Aratani Japanese Garden.
The BioTrek Learning Center includes the Rain Bird Rainforest Learning Center with tropical plants and animals; the Rain Bird Ethnobotony Center features native plants of Southern California and the experiences and lifestyles of Gabrielino-Tongva Indians; and the Rain Bird Aquatic Biology Center showcases fish and other aquatic species.
The University's green house is home to the Raymond Burr Orchid Collection with over 50,000 specimens and the international award winning Weeks Roses.
Cal Poly Pomona offers the excitement of one of the world's most diverse metropolitan areas and Southern California's magnificent weather, while still retaining the serenity of a foothill community. The University's proximity to business and industry makes it ideal for internships and employment opportunities. In addition, the campus is only a short drive from the beach, mountains, and desert; theaters, museums, and galleries; and such recreational sites as Disneyland, Hollywood Bowl, Kodak Theater and Knott's Berry Farm.
